Q: Is there food and drink at the dive base?
A: Yes, close to each Dive Base is a Taverna which serves hot and cold food and drinks all day.
Q: Can anybody SCUBA dive?
A: Yes, almost anybody can dive, We ask you however to fill in the medical statement on the transfer bus, but if you are in any doubt, you can ask your family docter before joining.
Q: What about the children?
A: Of course children are more than welcome at Blue ExplorersTM. Our Discover Programs are especially taylored for families with an Instructor led Snorkeling Course and Tour in the morning, and the opportunity to go SCUBA diving for the over 12s in the afternoon. All the places are safe for very young children to play on gentle sloping, sandy beaches.
Q: How many first-time divers go with each Instructor?
A: Blue ExplorersTM Dive Centers sticks rigorously to the self imposed rule that first-time divers are never more than two to one Instructor under the water.
Q: I am physically disabled. Can I dive?
A: If you have a physical disability you are more than welcome at Blue Explorers Dive Center. As the testimonials in our guest books attest to, diving will be as exciting for you as for anyone else.
Q: I am too short for my weight, do you have a wet suit that fits me?
A: Yes, our stock of 140 suits ranges from XXS (children) to XXL (sumo wrestler size) suits.
Q: What diving equipment is available for rent to certified divers?
A: All Blue ExplorersTM's prices for dives include, of course, tanks and weights. The regulators we rent are Aqualung balanced first stages, second stage, octopus and submersible pressure gauge. BCD's are Spiro Narval and SeaQuest in all sizes. Our tanks are 12 or 15 liters steel with DIN connection (adaptors are available for Int-connection). Our rental suits are Mares 5mm two piece with long-john and Spiro/Aqualung 5,5mm full body with hood. Fins available for rent are Technisub Stratos full foot and masks are Technisub Ventura, Ventura midi and Look (with interchangeable lenses for shortsighted, strengths from -1.0 to -6.5).
Q: What if I'm just snorkeling?
A: At Blue ExplorersTM Dive Center there is no such thing as "just" snorkeling. For us snorkeling is an exciting activity that anyone can do! As a snorkeler you receive from us the same high standard of instruction and equipment as our first-time and certified divers, including the state-of-the-art snorkels 'Air Purge' and 'Impulse2', high quality Ventura and Look masks (for which we have corrected lenses for shortsighted strenths from -1.0 to -6.5), a 5mm full body wetsuit with hood and Technisub Stratos fins.
Q: I am interested in water temperatures for Gran Canaria for the summer, I am considering a trip but to date I only dive warm water?
A: The water temperature here in the summer (May to September) is between 22 and 25 Celcius and this can drop in february to 16 or 17 Celcius. We dive here all year round in 5.5mm wetsuits with hoods (the "Sharm" model from Aqualung) and have Mares Wetsiut jackets for those who are particularly chilly to wear over the top.
